Piet Leroy (Belgium 1969), MD, PhD, MSc is a senior consultant in pediatric critical care and director of the Pediatric Procedural Sedation Unit at Maastricht University Medical Centre, Maastricht, The Netherlands. He is a professor in procedural sedation and analgesia in children (PROSA chair) at the School of Health Professions Education at Maastricht University and graduated in 2017 as a Master in Health Professions Education.
His main research topics concern delirium in critical care and procedural sedation in children. Within these fields he has published over 50 scientific papers, guidelines and book chapters and lectured at more than 100 scientific meetings over the last decade. In 2012 he obtained a PhD degree at Maastricht University with a thesis entitled ‘Improving Procedural Sedation and Analgesia in Children: from practice over evidence to practice’. He is a board member of the International Committee for the Advancement of Procedural Sedation and scientific director of the PROSA expertise centre which offers an interdisciplinary training and implementation program for trauma-free medical care in children. Piet Leroy is editor at the European Journal of Pediatrics. In 2023 he received the Blike&Cravero International Pediatric Sedation Advocacy Award van de Society of Pediatric Sedation.

Piet Leroy (België, 1969), MD, PhD, MSc, is een senior consultant in pediatrische intensieve zorg en directeur van de Eenheid voor Pediatrische Procedurale Sedatie aan het Maastricht Universitair Medisch Centrum, Maastricht, Nederland. Hij is hoogleraar Procedurele Sedatie en Analgesie bij Kinderen (PROSA leerstoel) bij de School of Health Professions Education van de Universiteit Maastricht en behaalde in 2017 een Master degree in Health Professions Education.
Zijn belangrijkste onderzoeksthema's betreffen delirium op de intensive care en procedurele sedatie bij kinderen. Binnen deze vakgebieden heeft hij meer dan 50 wetenschappelijke artikelen, richtlijnen en hoofdstukken in boeken gepubliceerd en lezingen gegeven op meer dan 100 wetenschappelijke bijeenkomsten in de afgelopen tien jaar. In 2012 behaalde hij een doctorstitel aan de Universiteit Maastricht met een proefschrift getiteld 'Improving Procedural Sedation and Analgesia in Children: from practice over evidence to practice'. Hij is bestuurslid van het International Committee for the Advancement of Procedural Sedation en wetenschappelijk directeur bij het PROSA-kenniscentrum dat een interdisciplinair trainings- en implementatieprogramma biedt voor trauma-vrije medische zorg bij kinderen. Dit werk wordt ondersteund door de Charlie Braveheart Foundation.
Piet Leroy is redacteur bij het European Journal of Pediatrics. In 2023 kreeg hij van de Amerikaanse Society of pediatric Sedation de Blike/Cravero International Pediatric Sedation Advocacy Award.
